Sarkaru Vaari Paata Review: Mahesh Babu’s Show

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s ‘Sarkaru Vari Paata’ movie is finally in theatres and fans are celebrating it in a big way. Owing to Mahesh’s star power, advanced bookings have been very promising and the movie is all set for good openings, as its pre-release campaign created positive buzz about the movie. Now let’s find out, whether this mega bucks movie is actually worth audience’s money and time.

SVP has a unique story which deals with financial mismanagement and frauds by powerful people and their impact on the poor and middle class public. Mahesh Babu runs a finance company which lends loans to people in needy in US. Keerthy Suresh, who hails from a rich family, takes loan from Mahesh Babu, lying about her background. She cheats Mahesh Babu by saying that she needs a loan for educational purpose, while actually she spends it at a casino. When she fails to repay the loan, Mahesh goes after her to collect his loan. He reaches Vizag in India, in search of Keerthy Suresh and encounters a much bigger issue.

It would be ideal if audience find out about the serious issue which is encountered by the Mahesh Babu and how he deals with it, themselves in the theatres. This journey of Mahesh Babu from America to India also reveals an interesting flash back and much bigger mission to achieve for the protagonist.

From story point of view, we can assume that SVP has a different story when compared with regular mass commercial movies. The very idea of financial scandals is interesting and if dealt well can turn into a good and thought provoking movie. That too when backed by a star like Mahesh Babu, it can turn into an engaging entertainer. But director Parasuram had faltered in the treatment and narration of the story. Though he has chosen a good story, he didn’t add required depth and failed to come up with an engaging narrative. If he had worked more on screenplay and treatment, then SVP would have been much better movie.

There is no doubt Sarkaru Vaari Paata movie is a star hero movie but Mahesh Babu has literally took the whole responsibility on his shoulders. In the absence of a strong script, its Mahesh Babu who runs the whole show. It appears director has depended more on Mahesh Babu than the script, to complete the movie. Right from the beginning, Mahesh Babu takes the movie forward with his one man show and impresses. Especially his comedy timing is impeccable and reminds us of the best moments from his past movies like Dookudu, Khaleja and others. He has tried a different look in SVP and appears impressive. He has done a decent job even in case of dances and fights and will impress both his fans and general audience.

Beauty with tallent, Keerthy Suresh has teamed up with Mahesh Babu for the first time. She looks very good and makes an interesting romantic pair with Mahesh. Audience will love Keerthy in this role. Samuthirakani, who has been taking forward his career with interesting roles, has got one more good role in SVP. He plays the baddie and its a cake walk for him. Vennela Kishore, Subbaraju and others appear in supporting roles and are adequate.

Music director Thaman has composed songs and background score for SVP. Already several songs like ‘Kalavathi’, penny song, Ma..Ma.. Mahesh, have been hits and they are feast to watch on big screen. However Thaman fails to recreate the same impact in case of background score. Cinematographer R Madhi deserves praise for presenting the whole movie in a stylish and sophisticated way. Senior editor Marthand K Venkatesh does the editing job and his expertise seems to have helped in keeping SVP compact. Action sequences are also good. Overall key crafts and production values are adequate.

Sarkaru Vaari Paata is literally Mahesh Babu’s one man show. In the absence of a strong script, its Mahesh Babu’s comedy timing and star power which saves the day.
