Argentina won the World Cup for the 3rd time in the historic clash
Argentina Edged out France in the Penalty Shootout 4-2 after the match went into the extra time which ended at 3-3. The match was considered to be the best ever World Cup Final. As expected the match was filled with a high drama and witnessed tense moments at the end of the game. Both the sides were involved in lot of rough tackles and fouls. Argentina took the lead in the 23rd minute through a penalty from Messi and after 13 minutes Messi set up a beautiful pass to Di Maria who scored in the 36th minute to give Argentina to increase the lead 2-0. At Half time Argentina lead 2-0.
In the 2nd half France kept on pressuring the defence of Argentina to pursue the goal. Kylian Mbappe scored a couple of goals in the 80th through a penalty kick and in the 81st minute he scored a beautiful field goal and ensured the match move into the extra time. Both the sides missed a lot of scoring chances in the extra time and in the 108th minute Messi slotted a stunning goal to give Argentina a 3-2 lead and in the 118th minute Kylian Mbappe secured a penalty kick from a foul from Argentina player who handed the ball and Kylian Mbappe scored the Hatrick with penalty at ease to level the score 3-3.
In the dying minutes of the extra time both the sides missed their chances to score the goal by a whisker. After the extra time, the score read 3-3. The match went into the penalty shootout. The goal keeper of Argentina was the hero in the penalty shootout who made 2 saves to give an enthralling win for the Argentina to clinch the World Cup 2022 title. Inspite of Mbappe’s hatrick, France ended up in the losing note. The crowd in the stadium had the day’s worth in watching the final.
France could only muster two goals in the penalty out of four kicks and Argentina scored all the four out of four. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez said “It’s our Destiny” to win the World Cup after the thrilling win in the final.
With regards to the awards, Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball award and was named the tournament’s best player. Argentina Goalkeeper Martinez Emiliano won the Golden glove award for his best performance in goal keeping and the Golden Boot was awarded to Kylian Mbappe and the FIFA Young Player Award was achieved by Argentina Midfielder Enzo Fernandez. England won the FIFA fair play award.
The whopping prize of $42million/INR 347 crore was awarded to the winner of the game Argentina.
