TVMI was formed by the fans of Vijay as a service organization and it has even contested in rural local bodies elections in 2021. Making heads turn, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam won about 129 seats.

Encouraged by the performance of Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam’s performance in rural areas, it has also geared up to contest in urban local body elections to be held in February 2022. Elections to the municipal corporations of Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and other major cities will be held as part of these polls. Already TVMI leader have held several discussions and charted out poll strategy. But they have got a setback as Election Commission refused to allot symbol. As TVMI is not a registered political party, Election Commission may have refused to allot a symbol to it.
