Megastar Chiranjeevi's Sankranti release Waltair Veerayya is in theatres this Friday. One of the most anticipated movies of the festival season, this big budget flick has been eagerly followed by not just Mega fans but also general audience. Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja's presence added to the hype. With Waltair Veerayya finally arriving in theatres, let's explore whether he wins hearts or lets us down.
A story of relationships and betrayal:
Veerayya (Chiranjeevi) is the leader of fishermen community in Waltair area in Vizag. While he carries out fishing as an occupation for livelihood, he is also the go-to guy for the people in troubles. So when a sincere but helpless police officer (Rajendra Prasad) wants to nab an international criminal Solomon (Bobby Simha), he seeks the help of Veerayya.
The search for Solomon leads Veerayya and his men to Malaysia. There he encounters Aditi (Shruti Hassan) and soon a romantic relationship develops. As the story moves forward, audience get to know that Veerayya is in Malaysia not just to catch Solomon but his elder brother Michael (Prakash Raj) who is an international drug lord and most wanted criminal by Indian Government.
Why Veerayya wants to exact revenge on Michael, what past haunts him and how he settles score is the key plot of Waltair Veerayya movie. What role does ACP Vikram (Ravi Teja) play in Veerayya's life is another important aspect of this story.
Immature narration spoils a good story:
When it comes to story, Waltair Veerayya movie has enough substance to keep audience interested all through. There is brothers sentiment, friendship, betrayal and emotion. But director Bobby has spoilt it with immature narration and unnecessary commercial ingredients.
While a story like this needs a gripping screenplay and emotional treatment, director Bobby has focused most on the entertainment angle. In fact Waltair Veerayya character mannerisms remind us of Chiranjeevi's character in Andarivadu. All through the movie there are also references to many of Chiranjeevi's old movies. While episodes like these might impress Mega fans, they take the impact off a serious story.
If Bobby would have focused more on narration and treatment instead of just banking on Chiranjeevi's image, then Waltair Veerayya would have been a better movie
For Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja fans:
Waltair Veerayya movie has been in news since it's announcement. Besides being a Chiranjeevi's movie, what makes it special is the presence of Ravi Teja. It is really a feast for the fans of both heroes to see their favourite stars sharing screen space. Unfortunately that's the only one plus point of this movie.
Shruthi Hassan is impressive as a RAW officer. She shines in both dances and action scenes. Catherine has an important role but a limited one. Prakash Raj has done roles like these umpteen times. Bobby Simha is impressive as a baddie.
This commercial potboiler also features many actors like Satyaraj, Vennela Kishore, Raghubabu, Nasser and others.
Music and technical crafts:
Among the behind the scenes crew Devi Sri Prasad is the most important one for Waltair Veerayya. Already songs like 'Sridevi' and Punakalu loading have been hit. However background score should have been better.
Arthur A Wilson has done a good job as cinematographer. He ensures that visuals are rich and lavish. Action choreographers deserve a pat. Especially the interval bang action scene stand out. As it comes from a big production house, production values are fine.
Waltair Veerayya movie team has been using 'Punakalu Loading' catch phrase all through the promotions. Unfortunately after watching the movie, audience will only experience 'Punakalu Buffering'.
Scenes between Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja came out well.
Time to think, why this has come in between.. Yet Poonakalu Loading is treat for both Ravi Teja and Chiranjeevi fans.
Second Half, Ravi Teja's entry as ACP.
First half report: Waltair Veerayya's interval break offers a shocking twist and ends with a perfect bang. Overall first half provides entertainment for Mega fans with all the action focused on Megastar. Ravi Teja's entry is awaited in the second half.
Sridevi Song came out well, productions values are good.
Chiranjeevi is looking dam good. But, director Bobby has not made a single scene till now, which grabs audience's attention rather than some silly comedy.
Catherine Teresa entry with flash back.
Chiranjeevi's looks are great. Leaving that, nothing is exciting. It is already 35mins.
Prakash Raj entry as Michael Ceaser with flashback.
Movie shifted to Malaysia.Shruti Haasan (Athidi) entry with the famous "Abba Thiyyani Debba Song".
Chiranjeevi is rocking as DJ veerayya. With assignment by Rajendra Prasad, movie shifts from India
