Ori Devuda Movie Review Rating : 3/5

Young hero Vishwak Sen who has earned a special recognition for himself in Telugu film industry with movies like Falaknuma Das, Ee Nagarananki Emaindi, HIT and others has come up with Ori Devuda movie this Friday. When compared to his earlier flicks, Ori Devuda falls in a different zone and what makes it more interesting is the presence of senior hero Victory Venkatesh. Let’s find out how this movie, which is a remake of Tamil hit ‘Oh my Kadavule’ fares.

Story of Ori Devuda: Fantasy twist to a love tale

Arjun (Vishwak Sen) and Anu (Mithila Palkar) are childhood friends who grew up together. From school to college, at home and outside, Arjun and Anu are an inseparable pair. Suddenly this best friends turn into husband and wife, as Anu proposes to Arjun.
Marriage with Anu gives Arjun a new found status, a job, luxurious home and comforts, as he is employed in the company of Anu’s father Paul Raj (Murali Sharma). But instead of making Arjun happy, marriage life makes him disappointed and frustrated.

Quite shockingly once best friends turn into a quarreling couple, after the marriage. The relationship between both strains so much that they apply for a divorce. When things seem heading towards a break up, the God (Venkatesh) intervenes. Whether Anu and Arjun will patch up their differences and strengthen their bond or will break up, forms the gist of Ori Devuda.

Ashwath Marimuthu impresses with narration and treatment:

If one thinks of Ori Devuda story, it is a pretty routine story. But director Ashwath Marimuthu, who is also the writer, turned it into a new story by adding fantasy element and unique narration. He also deserves appreciation for carefully balancing reality with fantasy.

Telugu audience have a long list of movies depicting the marital discord between hero and heroine. They are also familiar with the best friends-turned-couple dramas. But Ori Devuda gives a refreshing experience owing to Ashwath’s different treatment and engaging narration.

Vishwak Sen evolves:

Coming to artistes performance, lead actor Vishwak Sen impresses with his all round skills. Vishwak has evolved with Ori Devuda movie and his fans will love him. Senior hero Venkatesh Daggubati appeared as God in this rom-com. Though his character is the most important one, it is a smaller one for his stature. For an actor like Venkatesh, his role is a cakewalk.

In case of female leads, Mithila Palkar gets meaty role. As a friend and wife of Vishwak Sen, she does an impressive job. The chemistry between Vishwak and Mithali is pretty cute. Asha Bhatt appears as second female lead. She looks gorgeous. In case of character artistes, Venkatesh Kakumanu wins hearts as hero’s friend. Murali Sharma got one more good role in this flick. Nagineedu, Rahul Ramakrishna and others also feature in important supporting roles.

Music and other technical crafts:

Ori Devuda’s music has been composed by Leon James and he has come up with an impressive work. While songs have already been hit, he keeps audience engrossed with BGM. He deserves credit for adding positive vibes to the movie.

Vidhu Ayyanna’s cinematography is decent. Vijay Mukthavarapu is the editor. He should have cut short the movie, as momentum seems to be lagging at some points. With 143 minutes runtime, audience might find it lengthy. That’s the only shortcoming of Ori Devuda. Other wise it is a well made movie.

Final take:

Ori Devuda is romantic comedy with fantasy twist. You can watch it with your friends and family.
