Nayanthara O2 Movie Review : 1.5/5

Dream Warrior Pictures are known for making new attempts and they produced highly praised Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Kaithi before. Now, they have given GS Viknesh a chance to prove his mettle with Nayanthara in the lead. She became Lady Superstar after giving hits like Kolamavu Kokila, Imaikka Nodigal, Aramm, Maya. She had OTT releases like Mookuthi Amman, Netrikann before. Both are streaming on DisneyPlus Hotstar. Now, she came up with O2 on the same platform on 17th June.

First on CCC : Nayanthara and Vignesh New year Destination

Analysis:

Nayanthara after Aramm success has decided to give some novel concepts go ahead. She has been successful earlier with Kolamavu Kokila kind of scripts but here the idea is good but the execution, writing feel so light that we cannot make any sense of the second hour. Keeping a focussed narrative on mother working hard for the survival of her son might have helped the screenplay and the director.

GS Viknesh tries to involve many socio-political elements to delivery same experience like Journey but that film had everything imbibed into the script. Here many things feel like they have been added forcefully to thrill the audiences than them being organically stitched into the script.

Nayanthara surprises Samantha with an expensive gift

Nayanthara and Rithu rocks Rithvik did well to keep us engaged in the proceedings. They look like they are real mother-son and that is a positive to otherwise a very self indulgent script. Bharat Neelakandan also did his best. Background score and cinematography are good but the movie needed more from writing than what it had on paper. Some films feel like they have been over-written and this is one such film.

Positives:

  • Nayanthara – Rithvik bonding
  • Nayanthara performance

Negatives:

  • Dragged screenplay
  • Laughable twists
  • Unwanted social commentary
