Gargi Movie Review: Sai Pallavi gives career-best performance

Gargi Movie Review Rating: 3/5
Sai Pallavi has been doing good performances in movies like Fidaa, Love Story, Shyam Singha Roy, Virata Parvam. Movies might work or fail but she has been shining. She announced that Gargi is like her best film and dream role. So, why is she so excited about the film? Let’s discuss…
Plot:
Gargi (Sai Pallavi) works as a school teacher and she gets a news that her father (R.S. Shivaji) has been arrested for raping a 12 year old girl. Her fiance asks her to come with him to another city. She declines his request and decides to fight to prove her father as innocent. Her Lawyer uncle (Jayaprakash) declines to take the case fearing bar council, association. His assistant (Kalai Venkat) takes the case. How will they prove his innocence? And what kind of twists this case takes? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis:
The movie tries to tell how women/girls are in a society full of men with no morals. Few have morals but there are even those people who seem save but aren’t. But trying to give the narrative visually different feel and tell the story with visual grammar, young director over does few things. Also, his writing has many problems that need additional detailing and some simplicity. He over complicates and visually also goes for too many high motion frames unnecessarily that doesn’t really tell his intentions.

Sai Pallavi again gave a great performance. She is highly dependable and good in every frame. She is believable as middle class working woman with responsibilities. She would have been Balachander heroine in 1970’s had she been as an actress in that time. Kalai Venkat impresses in others. Music by Govind Vasantha and Cinematography are good. Movie could have been a real hard-hitting drama with all the crafts working well. The neo-realistic look also works for most part but climax doesn’t convince. Due to performances.
Positives:
- Sai Pallavi Performance
- Ensemble Cast
- BGM
- Cinematography
Negatives:
- Climax
- Writing
- Unconvincing Ending
- Slow Pace
