‘Thala vs Thalapathy’ is inevitable this Sankranthi after 8 years

Just like the clash of Telugu biggies Veera Simha Reddy and Waltair Veerayya, Tamil big-ticket films Varisu and Thunivu are also going to lock horns at the box office during the Sankranti festival. Initially, it was announced that Ajith’s Thunivu will release a day after Varisu on January 12th. But, the same-day clash seems inevitable.
The makers of Thunivu have made a surprise announcement that the film will hit the screens on January 11th. This was confirmed a few hours after the theatrical trailer of Varisu was out. Varisu was the first Sankranti film to lock January 11th slot. Thunivu was supposed to arrive on January 12th. Surprisingly, Ajith and his team decided to take on Vijay’s film by moving the release date to one day earlier than its original date. So, the Thala vs Thalapathy clash is happening after 8 years. Last time, it was Jilla vs Veeram in 2014.
While Thunivu is helmed by HS Vinoth, Varisu is directed by Vamshi Paidipally. The trailers of both films received a thumping response and they are carrying solid buzz in trade circles. It is going to be an interesting tussle at the box office this Sankranti.
