Can Mani Ratnam pull off a Rajamouli ?

Mani Ratnam’s ambitious historical magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1 created a massive box office storm after its release earlier this year. The film emerged as the highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu and also secured a place in the list of all-time biggest hits of the country with its record-breaking run in all territories.
The blockbuster success of the first part created solid hype for PS2 which is targeting release on April 28, 2023. This is the same date on which SS Rajamouli’s epic spectacle Baahubali 2 was released and created unprecedented havoc at the worldwide box office. Now, the question is whether Mani Ratnam could pull off a similar feat like Rajamouli with Ponniyin Selvan 2 ?
There is a bit of similarity between Ponniyin Selvan and Baahubali. Just like Baahubali: The Beginning, Ponniyin Selvan 1 also opened up with mixed reports initially but finally ended up as a blockbuster. Both films are branded as the pride of the respective regions. Now, the expectations for the second part of Ponniyin Selvan are similar to that of Baahubali 2.
Baahubali 2 was released amid a lot of hype and hysteria and stormed the box office in all territories. There are very big expectations for PS2 as well. So, if Mani Ratnam can deliver another stimulating saga, there is no wonder if it collects far bigger numbers than the first part.
