A sign of relief for Nayanatara and Vignesh Sivan

Newly married celebrity couple Nayanatara and Vignesh Sivan can heave a sigh of relief as they got a clean chit in the controversy surrounding surrogacy.
Nayan tied the nuptial knot with her boyfriend and director Vignesh Sivan on June 9th. Last month, the couple announced the arrival of twins with surrogacy. This has triggered a lot of discussion and allegations against the couple for flouting the norms of surrogacy forcing the Tamil Nadu Government to set up a three-member panel of investigation to investigate the matter and to submit a detailed report to act on the irregularities if any.
Are we gonna get ‘Rangasthalam 2’?
The committee, reportedly, exonerated the couple saying that due procedure was followed by the couple and the surrogate mother. The report states that the surrogate mother entered into an agreement with the couple in November 2021 and the embryo was placed in her in March this year. The twins were born in October. Commercial surrogacy was banned in India after The Surrogacy (Regulation) Act 2021 was passed in December. It came into effect in January 2022. Going by this timeline of events, when Nayanthara and Vignesh began the process, it was legal.
The panel came down heavily on the private hospital that had maintained Nayanthara’s records saying that the recordkeeping was improper, which led to confusion and controversy. The department has issued a notice to the hospital over the matter.
