Kamal Haasan opens up about his ideology behind ‘Hey Ram’ with Rahul Gandhi

“I was a bitter critic of Gandhi in my teens and re-discovered Gandhi around 24 – 24, and over the years, exponentially, I have become a fan. Making the film ‘Hey Ram’ was my idea of saying sorry to Bapu” said Kamal Haasan in a conversation with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. Kamal Haasan marched along Rahul’s Yatra in Delhi on December 24, 2022.
He joined Rahul Gandhi for a conversation today and spoke about Current politics, China & Cinema. “My father was a Congressman, but my environment made me a bitter critic of Gandhiji,” said Kamal. He also explained that his ‘Hey Ram’ is his letter to Gandhiji, which is a story of an extremist assassin who wanted to kill Gandhi but fumbles & fondles his decision as he reaches Gandhi. “The worst form of criticism is an assassination, I think it’s very cheap” expressed Kamal.
“If you go to places like Kerala, amity prevails, until you doctor it. I think there are more sides to it than just Hindu and Muslim, we have to understand that this country will only flourish with its plurality. I wanted to celebrate this yatra as it is reaching out to the people and lending the ear, instead of standing on a podium and lecturing. That’s commendable”, he said.
