Oscars Race : RRR shortlisted for Original Song, snubbed in two other categories

While SS Rajamouli’s unflinching spirit and pursuit to bring the first academy award for India in the Best Film category at the 95th Oscars is drawing huge attention, there is an early cheer for the Indian contingent as the superhit ‘Naatu Naatu’ song from this epic action spectacle has been shortlisted in the Music (Original Song) category by the academy. Now, the MM Keeravani musical is going to compete with 14 other songs to clinch the top spot. Before that, it should enter the final five nominations.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday unveiled its shortlists for the 2023 Oscars in 10 categories, including documentary and international features as well as documentary short subject, makeup and hairstyling, original score, original song, animated short, live-action short, sound and visual effects. Unfortunately, RRR was snubbed by the members of the Sound and Visual Effects category. The academy announced that nominations will be announced on January 24th 2023. The Oscars ceremony will be held on March 12th 2023 at the Dolby Theatre, Oviation Hollywood in Los Angeles.
India’s official entry to the Oscars, Chhello Show, a Gujarati film directed by Pan Nalin, made the cut in the Best International Film category. SS Rajamouli is contending in the Best Director Category and RRR is in the race for the Best Film category.
