In Remembrance of Kaikala – The ‘Navarasa Natasaarvabhauma’ of Indian Silver Screen

Popularly known for his Puranic roles like Yamadharmaraju and Ghatotkacha, Veteran actor Kaikala Satyanarayana passed away in the early hours of Friday, at his residence in Jubilee Hills after a brief illness as informed by his family members. His last rites will be conducted at Mahaprasthanam crematorium in Jubliee Hills by his family, which includes his wife, two daughters and a son.

Born on 25th July 1935 in Krishna district, his career can be called multifaceted. He was first recognized by D.L. Narayana and was offered a role in his film “Sipayi Koothuru”. Hereafter, he acted as a dupe for Sr.NTR in several movies during which he also developed a close bond with NTR. Later, NTR offered him a role in his film “Apoorva Sahasra Siraccheda Chinatamni in 1960. Then he acted in many negative roles and the rest is history.

He acted in many popular films like Raja Makutam, Lava Kusa, Narthanasala, Pandava Vanavasam, Ummadi Kutumbam etc. His role as Yama in films like Yamudiki Mogudu and Yamagola are his most loved and recognizable films. In the later stages of his career, he acted in Daruvu, NTR’s biopic and Maharshi. His production house “Rama Films” produced films like Bangaru Kutumbam and Muddula Mogudu.

He was also an MP for Machilipatnam in the 11th Lok Sabha election from TDP after which he bid adieu to politics. Kaikala married Nageswaramma in 1960. They have two sons and two daughters. By the end of his career, Kaikala acted in 770 films, with more than 200 directors, a record-breaking achievement indeed. He was honoured with several awards like Ragupati Venkaiah Award, the 2017 Filmfare Lifetime achievement award and Nandi awards too.

After his demise, many celebrities expressed their condolences on various platforms.
