After RRR, no big ticket Telugu film achieved blockbuster status at the box office. Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaruvaari Paata ended as a loss venture in some areas and Chiranjeevi’s Acharya turned out to be a colossal flop. Since then there are no big releases in Tollywood. Small and medium budget films like Major, Bimbisara, Sita Ramam and Karthikeya 2 scored a huge success in the due course.
After more than four months, two big-budget films are releasing on October 5th. Megastar Chaitanya’s God Father and Nagarjuna’s The Ghost are releasing amid big expectations. The Tollywood trade is eagerly waiting for that one big blockbuster which will cheer up the buyers and distributors because there are many big-budget films lined up for release this December and January next year.
The buzz on God Father augmented after the release of its theatrical trailer and due to the aggressive promotional campaign by Chiranjeevi. The film did superb pre-release business in all territories. The commercial elements and Chiranjeevi’s power-packed performance are said to be the selling points of the film. There are good chances that the film will open big in all areas. The festival season will give a big advantage for the film to register massive numbers in the first weekend.
Meanwhile, Nagarjuna’s The Ghost is also generating decent buzz because of the electrifying teasers and action-packed trailer. Nagarjuna is highly confident that the racy narration with emotional content will help the film big time in drawing the audiences to theatres. Director Praveen Sattaru is banking on the slick elements and strong technical values.
One of these two biggies, if not both, will need to click at the box office during the festival season to deliver the much-needed big-ticket success for trade circles who are very disappointed after Puri Jagannadh’s Liger failed badly despite huge expectations.
