Avatar 2 aka Avatar: The Way of Water is having a sensational run at the worldwide box office. The film is a technological marvel which took the visual effects to the next level. It proved why James Cameron is called a visionary director and a genius filmmaker.
Avatar was shot through performance capture technology. The actors are equipped with markers and head rigs to track each and every moment of their bodies. The facial expressions are also so perfectly captured and actors’ emotions can be seen through their avatars.
Now, a video featurette about the filming of Avatar 2 has been released. In the video, we can see Cameron and actors like Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Kate Winslet talking about their experiences of working in a volume with performance capture technology.
“As a director, I am more attuned to the actors because that is all I have to worry about and I am not distracted by the camera movement or the extras in the background. I am just there for them and that’s all I care about. Watching it (performance capture) is an amazing process. It’s also the only way to do this film,” says James Cameron in the video.
