Don’t rave about South Indian films : Bollywood director

Hitmaker Rohit Shetty, who directed numerous Bollywood blockbuster hits, is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming film Cirkus which stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role. Ahead of the film’s release on December 23rd, the Singham director is aggressively promoting it in North India. In his recent media interaction, Rohit said one bad year cannot take away the pride of Bollywood which over the years delivered timeless classics to moviegoers.

Rohit said people should remember it was Bollywood that produced films like Sholay, Amar Akbar Anthony, Dilwale Dulhania le Jayenge, Mother India, Golmaal, Kuch Kuch Hota hai and Singham. He added people should not forget the legacy of Bollywood and the award-winning performances of Hindi artists. He also said the audience should stop raving about South films too much.

Rohit’s opinion received a severe backlash from South audiences who are questioning his insecurity about films from other languages beyond Hindi. It is a known fact that Bollywood has been reeling with back-to-back flops since the start of the Covid pandemic barring a couple of hits. Rohit should also note that many films from the South have placed the legacy of Indian cinema on the International pedestal.
