Bollywood box office: Shamshera crashes out on Monday

As predicted by the trade circles, Bollywood latest biggie Shamshera, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, has seen a steep fall in the collections on its first Monday and thereby heading toward becoming a loss venture at the box office.
The fictitious period drama set in the backdrop of the 1800s directed by Karan Malhotra embarked on a low-key box office start with a mediocre 10.25 Crores net on its first day worldwide. The film needed a solid weekend to revive the hopes of the trade circles, but there is only a slight uptick in the numbers on Saturday and Sunday with 10.50 Crores and 11 Crores respectively.

On the crucial first Monday which decides the fate of such low-rated films, there is a drastic fall in the revenues with only 2.90 Crore net and taking the total net past 34 Crores in four days. Going by the current trend, the film is likely to end below 50 Crores.
The lacklustre narration and beaten-to-death storyline are the reasons for the outright rejection from the audiences. Ranbir Kapoor’s intense performance and some impressive war spectacles couldn’t save the film from turning out to be a failure at the box office.
