Telugu film Karthikeya 2 is gaining huge momentum in North India. From collecting a meagre 7 lakhs net on its opening day, the Nikhil Siddharth starrer has shown a massive jump of nearly 15 times on the Independence Day holiday with a net of 1.20 Crores from its Hindi version. On Sunday the film collected 35 lakhs net which is a 300 per cent rise compared to the first day numbers.
Karthikeya 2, directed by Chandoo Mondeti, has exceeded all expectations and struck gold after its release on August 13th. Due to the release of Bollywood biggies Lal Singh Chaddha and Rakshabandhan, Karthikeya 2 couldn’t get the desired number of screens in North India on its opening day. But, the positive talk about the film spread like a wildfire and set the tone for a strong box office show. By Sunday, the screens got multiplied because of the growing demand. And, on the Independence Day holiday, the film set the ticket windows ringing.
Trade circles are quite surprised by the terrific jump in the collections. The film is expected to rake in solid numbers this week as Bollywood films failed to capture the attention of audiences in the North. The mystery elements coupled with intriguing narration have helped Karthikeya 2 big time in striking a chord with the North audience. Anupam Kher’s role is getting a huge applause from all quarters.
