Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya put up a sensational run at the USA box office with phenomenal numbers. After taking a flying start with $ 680K from Thursday premieres, the film went on a rampage throughout the weekend. The film collected a solid $ 308K on Friday and screamed past the million dollar mark with an outstanding Saturday as it notched up $392K. On Sunday, the film punched out another $ 300K to take the total close to $ 1.7 Million.
Waltair Veerayya is now the fourth highest-grossing film in Chiranjeevi’s career in USA. This is also the third film after Khaidhi No 150, SyeRaa and God Father to join the 1.5 Million dollar club. Going by the current trend, there are good chances for the film to enter the prestigious $ 2 Million club in its full run. Waltair Veerayya has won the Sankranti box office battle quite decisively as no other film came closer to it.
Meanwhile, Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy is struggling to touch the million dollar mark. After a huge start with $708K from premieres, there is a steep decline in the numbers during the first weekend . The film collected $ 990 K so far. It might surpass Balakrishna’s highest grossing film Akhanda in its full run.
Tamil biggie Varisu has had a moderate run after a slow start due to bad planning by its distributor. The film collected $ 147K from premieres and went on to add $ 191K, $ 62K, $ 132K and $ 205K till Saturday. With Sunday’s $ 150K, the film is close to $ 900K gross. The Telugu version collected around $ 40K.
Another big ticket Tamil film Thunivu, starring Thala Ajith, also collected around $ 900K by the end of Sunday.
