USA box office: Waltair Veerayya extends its domination

Sankranti winner Waltair Veerayya, which performed extremely well in the first weekend, has had a decent second weekend at the US box office. As there are no releases last Friday, the Chiranjeevi starrer managed to pull in good numbers and entered the top 20 in the list of highest-grossing Telugu films in the USA. Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy completely crashed out in the second weekend after a decent first weekend. Tamil biggies Varisu and Thunivu collected moderate numbers.
Waltair Veerayya collected $ 65K and $ 97K in the second Friday and Saturday respectively to go past the $ 2.2M mark. With Sunday’s numbers, the film is likely to touch $ 2.25M. After a phenomenal first weekend with close to $1.7 M, the Bobby directional held well on weekdays and collected decent revenues. It is now aiming to touch the $ 2.5 Million mark in its full run and end up as the second biggest hit in Chiranjeevi’s career after SyeRaa Narasimha Reddy.
Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy completely fizzled out in the second weekend as it collected paltry numbers on Friday and Saturday with $ 9K and $ 16K. It is going to end with $ 1.1 M gross in its full run. After a huge start with $ 700K premieres, the film failed to cross $ 100K on of its successive days in the first weekend. The collections further sank on weekdays and completely slowed down in the second weekend. It nevertheless emerged as the second highest-grossing film for Balakrishna.
Tamil biggies Varisu and Thunivu collected so-so numbers on the second weekend. While Varisu crossed the $ 1.1 Million mark, Thunivu grossed $ 1.15 Million ( including Canada).
