US Box Office report : Major starts well, Vikram takes a terrific opening

Two prominent films from South India were released this Friday and both have taken a flying start at the US box office. While Major notched up half a million dollars, Vikram is closing in on the million-dollar mark as of this writing including the Saturday morning numbers.

Adivi Sesh’s Major embarked on an excellent start with $ 270K from its Thursday premiers which is the highest opening in his career by a long chalk. His previous highest was Evaru which collected $ 61K from premiers.

On Friday, Major collected another $ 210K ( approximately) and set for a superb weekend in the USA. Due to the positive reviews from special premiers in India, the film carried strong buzz and resulted in good openings all over. As the word of mouth is solid, the film is expected to rake in a million-dollar by the end of the weekend.

Major Movie Review : Patriotic Watch Out

Tamil film Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead, has taken a strong start with $ 863K from its first day including solid numbers from its Thursday premiers. Vikram is now the third best opener of Kollywood in the USA after Kabali ( $ 2.73M) and 2.0 ( $ 983K). And this is the career-best opening for Kamal Haasan. By Saturday morning, Vikram will breach into the million-dollar club and is likely to have a solid weekend as the reviews are promising.

Meanwhile, Telugu film Sarkaruvaari Paata ended its theatrical run in the USA with $ 2.34 Million gross. Trade reports that buyers will suffer minor losses in this territory but this is a good run for a film which received mixed reports.
