The film surpassed the $ 5 Million mark by Friday night and became the second Tamil film of all time to breach into the prestigious club. Ponniyin Selvan 1 is behind Rajinikanth’s 2.0 ( $ 5.5 M) in the list of highest-grossing Kollywood films in North America. It is likely to emerge as the biggest grosser there by the end of next week.
After taking a record-breaking start with three consecutive million dollar days and a super strong first Sunday with $ 740K, PS 1 remained steady on weekdays with $ 160K on Monday, $ 218K on Tuesday, $ 204K on Wednesday and $ 121K on second Friday. With an impressive haul of $ 210K + on the second Saturday, the period drama hit the magical $ 5M mark.
Tollywood biggie God Father is heading towards the million-dollar mark with a steady run. Though there is no great turnaround in the footfalls during the first weekend after a moderate start on Tuesday premiers, the film is holding on a decent note with par collections. However, it needs to perform well to go near the break-even mark.
God Father grossed $ 750K by the end of Friday and is going to touch the million-dollar mark by Sunday. The film collected $ 319K from its first day including Tuesday premiers. On Wednesday and Thursday, the Lucifer remake notched up $ 165K and $115K respectively. With Friday’s $ 150K, the film surpassed $ 750K mark.
