Atrangi Re Movie Review Rating: 2.5/5

Atrangi Re by Aanand L Rai is a film in which Dhanush, Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar are playing the lead roles. Let’s see the story of Atrangi re.

Story: Rinku (Sara Ali Khan), a fierce small-town girl from Bihar, who after eloping with her lover Sajad (Akshay Kumar) multiple times, is always brought back home by her family members. In a strange turn of events, Vishu (Dhansuh), a polite and obedient doctor, gets kidnapped by Rinku’s family members and is forcefully wedded to her. What happens next, form rest of the story of Atrangi Re.

Performance: Akshay Kumar in the role of Sajjad is a comical, jester, a mad man who conjures up tricks from his circus hat and changes the weather with a click of his fingers. Tamil star Dhanush is perfectly cast for this part. The actor who plays a Tamil boy in his final year in a Delhi medical college, is wonderfully nimble in the role that requires him to capture a wide range of moods, from the facetious to the flummoxed to forceful. Sara Ali Khan in the role of Rinku, is good, she makes the audience understand all her quirks and hidden trauma.

Technical: Aanand L. Rai’ screenplay has always been his biggest strength. Coming on the work of Aanand L Rai, he has carefully treaded on the sensitive topics such as love, mental illness and trauma. The music composed by A R Rahman is soulful. The cinematographer Pankaj Kumar adds his magical fresh touch enhancing the look and feel of the film. The production values are fantastic.

Analysis: The entire film oscillates between the three pillars – Sara Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and Dhanush. The film is Aanand L Rai’s bravest attempt in storytelling. The movie Atrangi Re is a risk on many accounts as it has two veteran actors, Dhanush and Akshay, who are known for their power packed performances, opposite Sara Ali Khan, who is still struggling to carve her own niche.

Atrangi Re is a story of love, loss, grief, and trauma. The first half is entertaining. The pace of the film, especially in the second half, does test your patience immensely.
